  • Cycle two abreast at own risk.  Keep well to LHS.

  • Get off the road at Sag Stops.

  • Cycling without Public Liability cover is as stupid as driving without 3rd Party - join Bicycle NSW for PL insurance, so that all Muggs are better protected.  Otherwise check your household insurance policy as it may provide you with 3rd party cover whilst cycling.

  • When passing a fellow Mugg, always provide a metre clearance.  If you can't, or are passing on the inside, call out loudly eg. "passing inside tight" etc.

Scribe’s rap-up of Sunday, 2 Feb, Tour de Windsor - from 73km to 139.2km

A tad after seven bells, 7 solitary souls [ToothFairy, Publican, Princess Caroline Dicky Knee, Bazza, BackPacker 'n Scribe] rolled out of Turra' on yet another dry morn' bound for the initial Nosh Stop of Galston Gorge.

A further contingent of 8 or so, incl Kiwi Mike, Nurse Karen, Marcel, Adam 'n Eve 'et al' commenced from Hornsby.  Gene, Andy 'n Katrina took the prudent call of driving to the other side of the chasm, before mounting-up.

These pics were snapped during a leisurely Nosh Stop under the awning in Macquarie St Windsor after 69.2km from Turra':

  • The somber slobs are the ones who began at Turra'.

  • The cheerful crew are the ones who commenced from Hornsby.

  • The ecstatic entrants are the ones who started from Galston.

Around 3:40pm Dicky Knee, Teller 'n ToothFairy rolled back in to Turra' with 139.2km on the dial.  Dicky reckoned that it is worth the longish drive from his digs out West to attend Muggs' rides, 'cause "they don't wait for the slowest cyclist", and "I always know that he will get a good work-out."  Meanwhile, Ann and Phil were feeling less adrenaline-ized, and were happy to still be in a fit state to retreat to the respite of their jalopies, where the bony bicycle seat would be a distant memory.

A sub-directory within "Rides Directories" on this website is "Muggs' 19 Rides".   Section 3 lists three different Windsor rides:

    (i)     116km - Browns Waterhole, Marayong, M2, Riverstone, Vineyard, to Windsor, Sackville Loop, train from Clarandon station to Marayong station , then M2 home.

(ii)     99km - Same route to Windsor, but skipping the 37km Sackville loop, but returning via Cattai Ridge Rd, then Galston with a short-cut down east side of rail-line to Turra'.

(iii)    139km - Bobbin Hd, Galston Gorge, Pitt Town Rd, Windsor, Cattai Ridge Rd, Berowra Waters, Bobbin Hd.

Notwithstanding that the 1st one above finishes with a trudge up precipitous Kissing Point Rd when, after 115km, "the can is on empty", the 3rd above ride, being the one we did last Sunday, is definitely the toughest.  But the fleeting return to our rustic origins, namely to one of Sydney town's first settlements, via NW thru a suburbs/townships that "ain't altered a lot in yonks", renders it "all worthwhile".

Guess what!  Muggs' erstwhile cycling compatriot, Luighi, who owns a paint shop, and still pines to, once again, pedal-up all the famous Tour de France climbs, incl Alp du Huez, has been at it again, by giving his fading mural in Turra' car-park a polish.  We've tried to tell our crazy Italiano that the trend of painting roads ain't the go in Oz, but Luighi won't hear of it.  And who is going to argue with a passionate, red-blooded Mediterranean with a warehouse full of spray cans.
