  • Hardcopy these directions, take a squiz of the route NW and bring on Sunday as this is a complex route

  • Cycle two abreast at own risk.  Keep well to LHS and get off the road at Sag Stops

  • Cycling without Public Liability cover is as stupid as driving without 3rd Party - join Bicycle NSW for PL insurance cover, so that all Muggs are better protected

  • When passing a fellow Mugg, always provide a metre clearance.  If you can't, or are passing on the inside, call out loudly eg. "passing inside tight" etc

Bike North's 3rd TOUR de COWRA this Easter

Do you want to ride your trusty treadley for up to 8 days with 30 or so Bike North cycle enthusiasts?

Over the last 7 years, Muggs has gone cycling en masse on most June, 'n a couple of Rocktober long w’ends – visiting The Lower Hunter  3 times, Gloucester, Mudgee and Bundanoon.  All of those pleasurable sorties out of the Big Smoke were NW in Wine Country, except Bundanoon which was SSW where 20 of us froze our buns off in 1999.  Four years ago we stayed at Thistle Hill Winery in Mudgee – 3½ hrs drive NWW of Sydney where the weather was balmy.  In April '01 we also pedalled to Dungog for our 1st '3 day' Linger ‘n DieIn Aug '02 Muggs visited Gloucester for Thunderbolts Way and in Nov '02 held the 2nd Linger ‘n Die to Patterson.

On each of the three last Easter long w'ends, Keith 'n Fran, two Bike North stalwarts, have led a contingent of 20+ cyclists to Cowra - another wine region, SW of Mudgee, for 4 days of cycling 'n revelry.  With Easter and Anzac Day 'only a stone's throw apart', this year Keith 'n Fran's 'proven' cycling sojourn spans over 8 days - Good Friday 18 April thru Anzac Day to Friday 26  April.

Pics of Keith 'n Fran are at Amadeus 'n Einstein in Chores 'n Crew.  Keith, with the greying ponytail, is a member of Sydney Conservatorium of Music and a gun cyclist to boot.  Fran is a number cruncher, who knows what all those long mathematical formulae actually mean, and can match Keith on the bike.

There is a Hot Air Balloon Festival at Cowra this Easter, so if you are interested, speak-up, or miss out!

Annie Oakley, who has attended a few annual Cowra Wine Shows, recommends Vineyard Motel – 6 @ twin share rooms with brekkie @ $60 p/h.

Each day’s ride would be unlikely to exceed 3½ hours, as there is other stuff to do, like visiting the Japanese Garden and WWII memorabilia from the Cowra POW break-out, when regrettably in 1944 a bunch of Japanese POWs broke-out of a detention centre with horrific personal casualties.  Not to forget other pleasurable pastimes, such as carbo-loading, and savoring the locally fermented produce.

Please let Bank Teller, Oakley or Whippet know if you think you are a better than 50/50 chance of attending Cowra this Easter, 'cause with the dam ballon festival 'double-booking the joint', it is 'put-up, or shut-up' time.

Details, including all the the route maps, descriptions is at Bike North's website  http://galifrey.triode.net.au/cgi-bin/rides.pl?ride=80
