Scribe's rap-up of Sunday, 24 Feb, Yarramalong Manor for lunch - Wyong "Iron Horse” home - 93km

10 crew mustered at Hornsby, and we collected new chum, Darren, at Berowra, but it was a hotch potch of late starters, followed by later starters, before we all got underway.  Perhaps the preponderance of stragglers was due to sunrise being only 22 mins before start time, and an overcast morn' which never warmed up.

Steve's front derailleur didn't want to work, whereupon we lost Marea and Steve after Mt White.

Jan and Volkswagen, both Audax veterans, skipped the Bikie Hangout rendezvous in pursuit of more clicksThey tagged up with Tom who had jumped the starter's gun, and with minimal attention to Nosh Stops, returned to Hornsby ahead of scheduleSo a reduced contingent of Publican, Navigator, Whippet, Widget, ToothFairy, Darren and Bank Teller rolled on to the Midcoast Petroleum at 9:05am.

After descending the corrugated Bumble Hill, our early lunch at The Manor of Beef Burgundy or Devonshire Tea 'went down a treat'.

Bank Teller had "hammered like hell" in an attempt to "real-in" Widget over the 19.5km continual incline to the familiar Peats Ridge Gas Station.  No prizes for picking the dude who still looked "like a shot duck" an hour later at Yarramalong.

Notwithstanding, we weren't going to make either the 12:36pm Express or 12:52pm "All-Stops", we still 'went like the clackers' over the remaining 19.5km flattish leg to Wyong station.

During our 25 min wait to the next 'Wyong Express to Hornsby', our two remaining girls, ToothFairy and Widget, did what they do best.  Whilst Whippet, tinkering with Publican's rear derailleur, was busy doin' what he does best.

Back at Hornsby, Whippet held on to his Yellow Jersey with 26.2km ave. over 93km.  Even the Rear-Gunner of the field, Bank Teller managed 23.5km, with the rest of the contingent averaging somewhere betwixt 'n between.

Lots of fun, but a shame a faulty derailleur caused Suicide Blonde/Steve to "up-stumps" at the Bikie Hangout, and that Volkswagen and Jan were too resolute for the rest of us who can only march on a full stomach.

Sat 9 and Sunday 10 March, annual Loop the Lake w'end

Below is an extract from bi-mthly Push On Mag for Feb/Mar:

“Date: Sat. 9 March and Sunday 10 March – Loop the Lake weekend

Rides: Sat. 60km from Warners Bay at 1pm.  Sun. 85km Loop the Lake from Speers Point at 8am.

Grade: H  Group: Bike North.  Contact: Phil Johnston 9312.3319 for B&B, restaurante  for Sat evening.

12 months ago about 8 Muggs linked up with other Bike North members at a restauranté in Warners Bay on the Sat evening.  We cycled a leisurely 55km on the Sat. arvo and 85km Loop the Lake on the Sunday morn', before driving home well satisfied.

Unlike last year, when booking digs was easy, there is a surf carnival (State titles) at nearby Blacksmiths Beach. All the lodgings near the beaches are chockers, but Bank Teller has booked 3 @ twin rooms at

Wangi Hotel Motel, Watkins Rd, Wangi Wangi  (02) 4975.1411 @ $40 per room ($20 each - "cheap as chips").  Wangi is 11km off the Freeway after taking the Morisset off-ramp.  Widget 'n Oakley have ear-marked one.  PJ and Whippet have another, and Whiz has just grabbed the final one.
