party nightly at restaurants at nearby

(ii)    do the touristy thing and see Canberra’s

sights; and

(iii)   complete on Sunday, 28 October, either –

 Ø    150kms Fitz's Challenge; or

 Ø      90kms Tharwa Challenge

Ride entry

Pedal Power ACT entry details are accessible on its Web site: (http://sunsite.anu.edu.au/community/pedalpower/about/fitzmap.htm where you can e-mail your entry reservation form.  If rec'd prior to 20 Oct, payment can be made on the day at the discounted entry fee of $15.  Where else could fifteen bucks provide so much fun!

What’s more, "team entry" is being offered at $12 for head - provided a minimum of 5 members per team for each ride.  The e-mail reservation form cannot be used for team entries.  Each team member has to fill out and sign a paper entry form (downloadable from the Fitz’s ‘home’ page), and these have to be mailed together to reach Canberra by 19 October.  So if we want to enter a Muggs' team in each event, we can save "three bucks" per capita on the standard $15 discounted solo entry fee.  Muggs ain't cheap ("not half"), but the more we save on entry, the more we can spend on food, vino and fine coffee.

Accommodation and nearby restaurants

Muggs has always stayed at The Lodge (4km SSW of centre of Canberra - turn L off State Circle and R into Gillies, and L into Dawes) – Victor Lodge, 29 Dawes St Kingston - ideally located near an array of previously well-frequented restaurants at Kingston Square incl -

  • Santorini [Greek],

  • La Dolce Vita [Italian];

  • The Fisho Café

  • Artespresso Café; and

  • Santa Lucia Trattoria [Italian].

Leanne at Victor Lodge (02) 6295.7777 has informed that double and twin rooms are $59 per night, which includes breakfast, towel & bed linen. [Bring along a towel if you want to use their shower facilities after the ride on Sunday].  So if you share a double or twin room, it will cost you $29.50 p/n.

Rooms next door at Motel Monaro are @ $95 (Leanne mentioned this is a "special rate" due to Muggs' on-going patronage, and to mention this offer to Muggs when booking).  Motel Monaro may also be booked by dialing Victor Lodge’s above ph #.  A double room with 2 singles @ $129 p/n is also available, if anyone wants to bring the wife and billy lids.  And they got a bigger one still.

The Scribe is driving down to The Lodge at Sparrow Fart on Sat morn' 27th Roctober and returning on Monday morn’ 29th, after his customary dip in nearby Old World Charm, Manuka Pool.  Approx. half the contingent are staying in Canberra on Sunday evening, so there has always been sufficient to provide a rowdy table at one of the above nearby restaurants on Sunday night, with Sat. evening usually characterized by carbo-loading, hype/humbug and lots of zees.

Action to joining Muggs' convoy this October

If you want to attempt either Challenge, or merely grab the opportunity to get out of Sydney by joining an ever-burgeoning bunch of Cycle Crazies, and may be do 30/40km of the Tharwa circuit, after the official rides have commenced, -
