Muggaccinos’ Sunday rides during Dec/Jan roll out at sparrow fart/cock’s crow to beat the heat and ensure adequate daylight to complete requisite long training rides in preparation for the prima endurance event on the annual cycling calendar in the Mecca of road cycling country, Vic. Alps.

The Alpine Classic evidences endurance cyclists from across Aust flock to the pristine town of Bright in the foothills of the Vic Alps twds the end of Jan for the annual pilgrimage where the splendid mountainous terrain proffers entrants in 6 ride distances (from 60km to 250km) from Howitt Park, Bright.

The pre-eminent 200km event contains 4 tough ascents:
*        NEE up
Towonga Gap 11km,
*        NNE up Falls Creek 29km,
*        SWW up Towonga Gap 8km (
from the steeper side); and
*        W up
Mt. Buffalo 22km.

Below are current Muggs, or former Muggs, who have registered for a 2013 ride:

  1. Jane aka NeoLuddite is riding the 130km route driving south on the Thursday and planning to arrive on the Friday.

  2. Needless to mention that the indomitable Eric aka PapaBear, is backing up for his 19th AAC.  Eric will arrive Friday arvo, Jan 25 and leave Tues morning, Jan 29, again staying at John Bright Motor Inn - (03) 5750.1455

  3. Greg and Gabrielle have booked a powered site at "Bright Pine Valley Tourist Park" from Jan 24th - 28th and are registered in the 200km AAC.

  4. Tony aka Yorkshire and Kev aka TexDubbo will again be attempting the 200km AAC, as it is part of their annual 'penance' to travel to the Mecca of endurance cycling and battle not only the 4 famous climbs but sometimes also the elements.  The 'two bookends' arrive at the Riverbank Hotel in Bright around 2pm Saturday, knock themselves up seriously on Sunday, and drive out around 9am Monday.

  5. Bill aka Glasgow plans to arrive at the Bright Camp Ground on Friday arvo, Suck a few Sherberts Friday night, walk around town Saturday, ride 200km AAC Sunday, and drive back Monday.

  6. David aka CricketTragic is registered for the 200km route.

You might think you are driving South, but, in fact, you head lots more West, albeit hooking back SE after Wangaratta

What does the above map show you?  Not a lot. It is as boring as batshit driving 680km to the Vic. border and onto Wodonga.  However, voila the landscape and scenic beauty increase exponentially the more you drive Sth. into Vic.

A
u milieu de this map is the quaint, pristine township of Bright in the foothills of the Vic. Alps.  Falls Creek is SE.  "The Giant" Mt Hotham is Sth.  Mt Buffalo is due West.
